Alla fine Green Book (film commedia, sceneggiatura e attore non protagonsita) e Bohemian Rhapsody (film drammatico e miglior attore drammatico) hanno conquistato il primo tre e il secondo due statuette a testa. Due anche per Roma (film straniero e regista). Gli sconfitti? Vice, soprattuto: il biopic sul vice presidente USA Dick Cheney partiva in pole position con 6 nomination. Si è dovuto accontentare del premio a Christian Bale come miglior attore di commedia. A Star Is Born ha trionfato con Lady Gaga per la miglior canzone (Shallow). Glenn Close l’ha sconfitta come attrice. La battuta più bella? Di Patricia Clarkson, premiata per la mini serie Sharp Objects: “Grazie al mio regista che mi ha chiesto tutto tranne il sesso. Come dovrebbe essere sempre”.

Jeff Bridges, Premio alla carriera, ha raccontato se stesso e ripassato la storia del cinema. “Grazie alla mia ragazza da 45 anni, Suzy mia moglie. E a Michael Cimino. E a Peter Bodgdanovich. A mio fratello e mio padre che da lassù è qui con noi. A me piace pensare a me stesso come a una di quelle piccole navi che guidano le grandi navi nei porti. Noi possiamo fare tutto”. Emozionante, come vedere il Golden Globe come Miglior attore drammatico Rami Malek, Freddie Mercury redivivo in Bohemian Rhapsody (miglior film drammatico), circondato in sala dai Queen.
Caustico Christian Bale, premio come Miglior attore per Vice, in cui interpreta l’ex vice presidente USA Dick Cheney: “Grazie a mia moglie che mi suggerisce tutto e mi ha detto di essere breve. E grazie a Satana per avermi aiutato a interpretare il diavolo”.
Riflessiva Glenn Close, miglior attrice drammatica per The Wife: “Ringrazio tutte le mie colleghe, abbiamo avuto modo di conoscerci un po’. Dovremmo essere tutte qui. Mia madre a 80 anni mi disse che le sembrava di non aver fatto nulla nella vita. Non è vero. Noi donne siamo madri e mogli, ma dobbiamo trovare una nostra soddisfazione 
personale. Ce la debbono lasciare. Da piccola, ero come Muhammad Ali, destinato a fare il pugile. Nel mio destino c’era il fare l’attrice. 45 anni dopo il mio debutto non riesco a immaginare una vita più bella”.
Politico il ringraziamento di Alfonso Cuaron, vincitore per il Miglior film straniero e come regista con Roma. “I film abbattono i muri”. E ogni riferimento, da messicano, a Donald Trump non era causale.
